Celebrating Three "Almost Milestones"

Source

I’m not very good at remembering anniversaries. Or birthdays. Or milestones.

Don’t get me wrong, I love celebrating them. The enthusiasm isn’t the problem. It’s the remembering bit. I either remember too early, and then can’t hold in my excitement until the big day. Or I remember too late.

Two years ago, I was 8 month pregnant with JJ, and was all stroppy and emotional as only a pregnant women can  be. After I’d shot Mr Banya a particularly cutting remark, he shot back “well, happy anniversary”, and I thought “yeah, very funny”. It wasn’t until the next day that I realised that it was only half sarcasm.

I mean, I do try. I’d really like to be good at this stuff. It’s just hard.

I started Danya Banya on 11th July. So I had in the back of my mind that I was coming up to the 3 month mark sometime in October, and that I wanted to celebrate with a quick post summarising this first quarter. And then, all of a sudden, I’ve just noticed that the 3 month mark passed about a week ago. Oops!

So here it is. Belated, but celebratory just the same.

My 5 most viewed posts are (in order):
How To Make Zoo Animal Face Masks
Fabric Letters & Numbers
* Cute Little Onesies
* Getting ready for the baby: sewing fabric liners for the chest of drawers
* Toilet Paper Roll Dolls

And about half of my readers are Australian, about a quarter is from the United States, and the other quarter is a mix of readers from the United Kingdom, Canada, India, Israel, Germany, Malaysia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Singapore.

Interesting, huh? Well, I think so.

What’s on my to-do list? Well, I’m still working out what things I like to blog about. I’m still working out what things you like reading about. I’m still finding my “voice” or style of writing. I’d like to change my favicon. I have a html bug that blows out the size of buttons on the bottom of posts. My page isn’t as stylish as some others…

But overall, I’m really proud of what I’ve achieved in 3 short months, considering no previous blogging or website design experience…, and having a toddler underfoot and a newborn arrive in the middle of it all.

So happy 3 month anniversary Danya Banya for the other week!

And another milestone. Yesterday I posted my 50th post! But I didn’t realise until after I’d clicked publish. Whilst “introducing the concept of time” is a rivoting subject, I probably would have chosen something more special, like a giveaway to thank my readers. Oh hang on, I posted my first ever giveaway last week. (Which, btw, you should totally enter.)  You’d think I would have noticed that a milestone was approaching and waited. But then again, the whole point of this post is that I’m not good at that sort of thing, except in retrospect.

So happy 50th post for yesterday!

And now, as I’m musing over milestones that have (oops) just passed, I can’t help but notice that I’ve another milestone approaching. My Danya Banya blog facebook page has 49 “likes”! Who will be my 50th liker? Can I wait until I’ve actually reached 50 likes before I celebrate? Nah, lets pop the cork now!
So happy 50th likers, when you get one more like!

Ironically I only just blogged on Saturday about our new Special Plate tradition, unbenownst to all the causes of bloggy celebration surrounding me. But the beauty of this new tradition, is that it is not only special dates that can be celebrated, but special anythings. I’ll be licking the Special Plate clean tonight. 🙂
